Hello, my name is Nicholas Alpaugh, though I prefer to go by Nick. I'm passionate about self-improvement activities, including going to the gym, skiing, hiking, and engaging with others to deepen my understanding of my environment.
I take great enjoyment in spearheading projects and working closely with others to find better, more efficient ways to achieve our goals. Below, you'll find a list of projects I’ve completed with my peers throughout college. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like more information.
Throughout my college career, I have developed a range of skills in website development. I can create fully functional front-end and back-end websites using my knowledge of CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.
In addition to coding websites, I focus on structuring them to be visually appealing and user-friendly. My design approach prioritizes a modern look with intuitive navigation.
As part of my coding journey, I took on the challenge of learning various game engines, including Unity, Unreal, and, more recently, Source 1 and Source 2.
I have experience in animation using Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Adobe XD. You can find an example of my animation work in the projects section below.
Alongside my technical skills, I highly value effective communication. I believe it is essential for project success, as clear communication prevents misunderstandings and helps projects run smoothly.
In group projects, I often take on leadership roles. For instance, in projects like "Interactive Storytelling" and "Group Game Project," I was the team leader, responsible for ensuring that assignments were completed on time and that all components came together cohesively.
In my first project with GIMM, I developed a functional 2D game, which required learning new coding skills from scratch. This project helped me gain foundational experience in Unity and C#. Below are the key skills I developed, along with a link to download and play the game.
For our second project, we shifted to a more artistic approach, applying our Unity skills to create an interactive comic. This project allowed me to explore Unity in a narrative format. Below are the skills I acquired, and you can find a link to download and experience the comic.
This project emphasized teamwork and communication, as we worked collaboratively to bring our ideas to life in a game. Serving as team lead, I helped guide my team in Unity and C# while developing project management skills. You’ll find a link to download and play the final product below.
In this animation project, I used Adobe After Effects, creating a fluid animation from edited images. This was a challenging project, but it significantly expanded my skills. The link below leads to the finished animation.
For this project, I developed the “Unidentified Object Detector,” a system that enhances garage safety by detecting breaches in a laser field and sending notifications to a smartphone. This Arduino project combined coding and hardware skills. Download the PowerPoint and code for more information on the project.
This project required us to create a research-based website on a topic of choice; I selected space exploration. Through this, I learned to implement Node.js to work alongside HTML, building a seamless and engaging web experience. You can download and explore the website below.
